The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), a growing grassroots political organisation supporting the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), has declared its readiness to deliver at least 60,000 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
The declaration was made by the Convener of the movement, Mr. Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, where leaders reviewed the organisation’s progress, unveiled new mobilisation strategies and welcomed additional political groups into its fold.
The gathering, attended by state executives, apex leaders, local government coordinators, youth leaders and supporters, underscored the movement’s determination to strengthen its grassroots structures and expand voter mobilisation efforts across the state ahead of the next general elections.

Akintunde described YPM as one of the fastest-growing political mobilisation platforms in Ogun State, noting that the organisation has continued to attract support from diverse communities, interest groups and political stakeholders.
According to him, the movement has placed significant emphasis on voter education, youth participation, PVC registration and grassroots engagement as part of its broader strategy to support APC candidates in future elections.
“We are not only building a movement; we are building a formidable grassroots political structure capable of making a significant impact in the 2027 elections. Our target is clear, and we are committed to delivering no fewer than 60,000 votes for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola,” Akintunde declared.
He revealed that the movement has already facilitated the registration of more than 12,000 new voters across Ogun State through its ongoing Permanent Voter Card registration campaign, describing the achievement as a major milestone in preparations for the 2027 electoral contest.
“Today, YPM has grown to over 44,000 registered members across the state, and the number continues to rise daily through the efforts of our local government coordinators and mobilisation teams. This growth reflects the confidence people have in our vision and the future we are building together,” he said.
The convener further disclosed that the organisation would soon roll out an extensive youth and students’ solidarity programme, alongside a major empowerment initiative aimed at improving the welfare and economic prospects of members.
“We are preparing additional programmes that will directly benefit our members, particularly young people and students. We believe political participation must also translate into opportunities for empowerment and development,” he added.
Speaking at the meeting, the State Coordinator of YPM, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, traced the evolution of the movement to the merger of several political support groups, which he said has transformed the organisation into a formidable political force within a short period.
He credited the movement’s rapid expansion to the leadership of Akintunde and the dedication of members across the state.
“YPM has become a platform for unity, empowerment and inclusive political participation. We are committed to strengthening support for Senator Adeola and all APC candidates while promoting grassroots development and democratic engagement,” Kaka said.
He expressed satisfaction with the increasing membership strength of the organisation, describing it as evidence of growing public trust and confidence in the movement’s objectives.
“The support we are receiving from every part of Ogun State is encouraging. Our membership growth demonstrates that people believe in what we stand for and where we are headed,” he stated.
Also addressing the gathering, former member of the House of Representatives and one of the movement’s apex leaders, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, urged members to remain united and focused as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
Odeneye commended the leadership of the movement for sustaining its momentum and advised members to continue working collectively to achieve the organisation’s objectives.
“Unity remains our greatest strength. We must continue to work together and remain committed to the ideals that brought us together as a movement,” he said.
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the formal defection of three political groups into the Yayi Progressives Movement, further boosting its membership and grassroots reach.
The groups include Women in Politics from Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Idege Group from Ogun East Senatorial District and the Alhaji Mutty Group, also from Ogun East.
Hundreds of supporters accompanied the groups into the movement, signalling what observers described as growing momentum for the YPM project across the state.
Receiving the new entrants, Akintunde welcomed them into the organisation and directed local government coordinators to immediately commence their integration and documentation.
He assured the defectors of equal opportunities within the movement and pledged that their contributions would be valued.
The meeting concluded with leaders and coordinators reaffirming their commitment to intensifying grassroots consultations, expanding the movement’s structures across all 20 local government areas of Ogun State and mobilising more eligible voters ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Political observers view the rapid growth of the Yayi Progressives Movement as a significant development in Ogun State politics, particularly as stakeholders begin positioning themselves for what is expected to be a keenly contested governorship race.
