President describes Agriculture Minister’s emergence as global vote of confidence in Nigeria’s food security reforms
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, on his unanimous election as Chairperson of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), describing the development as a strong endorsement of Nigeria’s ongoing agricultural reforms.
Senator Kyari was elected on Tuesday to preside over the 49th session of IFAD’s Governing Council, the organisation’s highest decision-making authority.
Reacting to the news, President Tinubu said the election reflects growing international confidence in Kyari’s leadership and the reform-driven agenda being implemented in Nigeria’s agriculture and food security value chain.
According to the President, the minister’s emergence at the helm of IFAD comes at a critical time when nations across the world are confronted with rising food insecurity and the urgent need for sustainable agricultural solutions.
“The election of the Agriculture and Food Security Minister is a clear endorsement of his competence and the reform agenda he is driving in Nigeria’s agricultural sector,” Tinubu stated.
“I am confident that Senator Kyari will provide effective leadership for IFAD and further strengthen its relevance and global impact, particularly at a time when the world is grappling with food security challenges.”
President Tinubu wished the minister a successful and impactful tenure in the new international role.
