The Central Naval Command (CNC) of the Nigerian Navy (NN) has intensified strategic engagements with major oil exploration companies and key maritime stakeholders to safeguard Nigeria’s blue economy and support national production goals.
Led by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) CNC, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, the engagements began on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, and continued with a broader stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, focusing on mitigating security threats to critical maritime and economic assets.
A key outcome of the meetings was a collective commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s target of 2.5 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil production. Stakeholders agreed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate is achievable if efforts are coordinated to eliminate crude oil theft, sabotage, and operational disruptions.
Rear Admiral Ibrahim emphasized, “The Navy’s primary responsibility is to provide an enabling secure environment. Maritime security is a shared responsibility, and industry operators must partner with us to protect our assets.”
He assured stakeholders of the unwavering support of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, in optimizing security deployments across the Central Naval Command’s Area of Responsibility through strategic leadership and provision of necessary platforms.
The engagements also served as a platform to review the evolving maritime security landscape.
Stakeholders expressed confidence that strengthened naval leadership, inter-agency collaboration, and active industry participation will ensure the realization of Nigeria’s maritime economic objectives.
