Ogun SUBEB Commends Gov Abiodun for Approving Grade Level 17 for Teachers

Board describes decision as historic boost to teachers’ welfare and motivation

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has expressed profound appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving the long-awaited Grade Level 17 for public primary school teachers in the state, describing the decision as historic, progressive, and unprecedented.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Chairman of Ogun SUBEB, Evangelist Olakekan Ifede, said the approval represents a major milestone in the quest to improve teachers’ welfare and accord the teaching profession the recognition it deserves.

According to him, educators in the public basic education sector have for years aspired to a career progression structure that reflects their experience, qualifications, and invaluable contributions to human capital development.

“The approval of Grade Level 17 marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to enhance teachers’ welfare and elevate the teaching profession,” Ifede said.

“For many years, teachers have looked forward to career progression that truly reflects their commitment, qualifications, and contributions to the development of our society.”

The Board noted that Governor Abiodun’s approval underscores his administration’s commitment to education as a critical driver of socio-economic growth in Ogun State.

It added that by addressing the long-standing concerns of teachers, the governor has once again demonstrated responsiveness to the needs of workers and a clear understanding of the pivotal role educators play in shaping the future of the state.

Also speaking, the Board Secretary, Mr Olubori Akinleye, said the approval of Grade Level 17 has renewed hope, boosted morale, and strengthened motivation among teachers across public primary schools in the state.

“This decision has rekindled hope and enhanced motivation among teachers. It is expected to improve productivity, professionalism, and dedication to duty, while also attracting and retaining qualified teaching personnel within the public school system,” Akinleye stated.

He assured teachers and other stakeholders that Ogun SUBEB remains fully committed to working with relevant ministries, agencies, and organised labour to ensure a seamless and transparent implementation of the new grade level in line with established guidelines.

In conclusion, the Board reiterated its gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as a bold and visionary step, reaffirming its support for policies and initiatives that promote teachers’ welfare and the sustainable development of education in Ogun State.
