Reforms yielding results as 2026 budget prioritises security, infrastructure, education, health Dateline:
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking deliberate and necessary steps to stabilise Nigeria’s economy, strengthen national security, and lay a solid foundation for long-term national prosperity.
Idris stated this on Friday night while addressing leaders and members of All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups at a dinner held at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja.
The minister commended the support groups for their loyalty and sustained backing of the party, describing them as a critical pillar of the APC’s success. He noted that the Tinubu administration assumed office at a challenging period in Nigeria’s history, which required bold and sometimes difficult decisions to address deep-rooted economic and security challenges.
According to him, the government’s reform agenda is already yielding positive results.
“We are beginning to see encouraging signs from the reforms, including improved investor confidence, increased oil production, stronger revenue performance, and targeted support for states, businesses, and vulnerable Nigerians,” Idris said.
He stressed that transparent communication and active citizen engagement remain central to the administration’s approach, noting that reforms must be clearly explained to Nigerians to build trust and foster a shared national purpose.
The minister also highlighted the 2026 budget estimates of N58.18 trillion, presented earlier in the day by President Tinubu to the National Assembly, noting that Defence and Security, Infrastructure, Education, and Health received priority attention.
Quoting the President, Idris explained that the four sectors are closely interconnected.
“Security is essential for investment, education and health drive productivity, while infrastructure supports job creation and enterprise growth,” he said.
He added that national security remains a top priority in 2026, with plans to modernise the armed forces, strengthen intelligence-driven policing, improve border security, deploy technology-based surveillance, and support community-level peacebuilding and conflict prevention initiatives.
Describing APC support groups as more than election-time mobilisers, the minister said they play a crucial role in defending facts, countering misinformation, and explaining government policies to the public.
“As ambassadors of our party, your role in mobilising, informing, and strengthening public confidence in our policies is more important than ever,” Idris said, urging them to actively support the 2026 budget, tagged “The Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity.”
He assured the groups that their sacrifices and contributions are recognised and appreciated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusion, fairness, and rewarding hard work.
The minister concluded by calling for unity and renewed commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging party members to continue working with President Tinubu to build a stronger, more secure, and more prosperous Nigeria.
The event was attended by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Abdulhamid Dembos, the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr Mohammed Bulama, the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba-Ndace, and leaders of various APC support groups.
