Ogun Lawmakers Laud Head of Service, Push for Stronger Civil Service

Lawmakers hail professionalism, back increased funding as HoS defends 2026 budget proposals

The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation has commended the Office of the Head of Service for its professionalism, prompt service delivery and strategic role as the engine room of government, describing its performance as critical to effective governance across the state.

Members of the committee, led by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, gave the commendation during the defence of the 2026 budget proposals by the Office of the Head of Service, led by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, alongside agencies and bureaux under his supervision.

The lawmakers acknowledged the various reforms and programmes initiated by the office to enhance service delivery and promote good governance, noting that these initiatives had contributed significantly to efficiency within the public service.

They also advocated increased funding for the Office of the Head of Service to further strengthen its institutional capacity and enable it to effectively discharge its statutory responsibilities in the next fiscal year.

Responding, Mr. Onasanya explained that the 2026 budget proposals of the bureaux under his office were deliberately designed to prioritise capacity building, deepen ongoing reforms and reinvigorate the civil service for improved efficiency and service delivery.

“The 2026 budget proposals were anchored on capacity building to deepen reforms and reposition the civil service to effectively drive efficiency and improved service delivery across the state,” he said.

Speaking further, the Head of Service disclosed that the Ogun State Civil Service would mark its 50th anniversary in 2026, noting that the state had evolved from being largely a civil service–driven economy to an industrialised state through sustained socio-economic reforms.

“The good news is that Ogun State has been transformed from a typical civil service state to an industrialised one through various socio-economic reforms and programmes of government,” Onasanya stated.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as visionary leadership, crediting the administration’s infrastructure drive and investment incentives for positioning Ogun State as a preferred investment destination.

“The promotion of infrastructure and investment incentives has placed Ogun State on the front burner among its peers on the ease of doing business rankings,” he added.

Mr. Onasanya also urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to approach budget defence exercises with transparency, integrity and accountability, stressing that prudent financial management remained vital to sustaining public trust.

The Head of Service was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment and Training, Mrs. Lydia Bolaji Fajounbo; Permanent Secretary, Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, mni; Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Soji Adewuyi; Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Dipo Ogunfowora; Permanent Secretary, Bureau of State Pension, Mrs. Arinola Adetayo, among others.
