President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16, 2025.
The reconstituted board is chaired by Dr. Musiliu Olalekan Oseni, with Dr. Yusuf Ali appointed as Vice Chairman, alongside five other commissioners drawn from within and outside the Commission.
Dr. Oseni, who began his service as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed office as Chairman with effect from December 1, 2025. His appointment will run until the completion of his ten-year tenure, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr. Yusuf Ali, first appointed Commissioner in February 2022, also assumed his role as Vice Chairman from December 1, 2025, and will serve until the end of his first term.
Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, Mrs. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, Dr. Chidi Ike, and Dr. Fouad Animashaun, an energy economist and former Executive Commissioner and CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has charged the board to consolidate ongoing reforms in the power sector and ensure strict adherence to the Electricity Act, 2023.
“The board is expected to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023,” the President said.
The reconstitution underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening regulatory oversight and improving efficiency across Nigeria’s electricity value chain.
The announcement was conveyed in a statement issued by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
