Christmas has begun, and the spirit of the season is gently settling over Nigeria’s capital. In Abuja, the air is filled with music, expectation and quiet joy as the nation once again takes the lead in ushering in the festive season.
That spirit was beautifully expressed at the State House, Abuja, where the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, hosted the 2025 Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. The annual service gathered leaders, dignitaries and worshippers for an evening of worship, reflection and thanksgiving as the year draws to a close.
With the theme “Emmanuel: God With Us,” the service offered a solemn yet uplifting atmosphere, reminding attendees of the true essence of Christmas — hope, faith and God’s abiding presence with His people. As traditional carols filled the State House grounds, each hymn echoed prayers for peace, unity and renewal across the nation.
The exhortation by the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Oliver Aba, was a highlight of the evening. His message centred on the timeless Christmas values of unity, selfless service and love for one another, urging Nigerians to embrace compassion and responsibility in their daily lives.
The gathering also drew notable leaders from across the country, including the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, whose presence reflected the importance of shared national fellowship beyond political boundaries.
As candles glowed and voices rose in harmony, the service became more than a ceremony — it was a moment of reassurance and collective reflection. In a season often marked by noise and celebration, the State House carol service offered a calm reminder of gratitude, humility and togetherness.
With Christmas now in the air, the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols stood as a powerful symbol of unity, faith and national hope — a gentle call for Nigerians to move forward with renewed commitment to peace, service and love for one another.
