Spotify has released its 2025 Wrapped, unveiling the tracks, albums and creators that defined Nigeria’s listening habits over the past year. The annual recap, which dropped on Wednesday, highlights both established hitmakers and a new wave of breakout artistes rapidly reshaping the country’s sound.
Davido claimed the top spot with “With You” featuring Omah Lay, the most-streamed song in Nigeria this year. But the biggest surprise sits just below No. 1, where emerging talents dominate the landscape. Fido’s viral anthem “Joy is Coming” took the second position, Kunmie’s tender debut “Arike” followed closely, while Faceless’ “Venus” continued its steady rise. Spotify RADAR act FOLA also broke into the upper tier with “Lost.”
The strong showing from fresh names suggests that younger artistes are not merely joining the industry—they are actively reshaping mood, influence and momentum within Nigerian pop culture.
In the albums category, Wizkid’s “Morayo” secured the title of Nigeria’s most-streamed project of 2025. He also topped the list of overall most-streamed artistes, reaffirming his longstanding dominance. He was followed by Seyi Vibez, Asake, Burna Boy and Odumodublvck, a lineup that reflects the diversity of today’s Nigerian sound—from gritty street styles to globally recognised Afrobeats.
Asake delivered one of the strongest catalog performances of the year, with three projects landing within the country’s ten most-streamed albums. His continued success signals how deeply his music remains embedded in everyday listening across Nigeria.
Among women, Ayra Starr retained her position as Nigeria’s most-streamed female artiste. She appeared alongside Tems, genre-blending newcomer Smur Lee, Afrobeats icon Tiwa Savage, and gospel favourite Sunmisola Agbebi. Smur Lee’s rapid ascent has been turbo-charged by a wave of high-profile collaborations, while Sunmisola’s steady rise reinforces Nigeria’s enduring appetite for gospel music.
Spotify’s 2025 data shows Nigerian listeners rallying behind local talent, with homegrown music consumption rising by 82 per cent. Afrobeats continued its global march, enjoying a 22 per cent increase in worldwide streams.
Nigerians also leaned deeper into spoken-word content. Spotify reports a 97 per cent surge in hours spent listening to podcasts and a 48 per cent rise in locally produced podcast titles. Many of the top spiritual and reflection-themed shows suggest a growing desire among listeners for guidance, inspiration and community through digital audio.
Overall, Nigerians clocked more than 1.3 billion hours on Spotify in 2025—much of it dedicated to supporting a new generation of rising stars whose creativity continues to shape the nation’s fast-evolving soundscape.
“Nigeria’s 2025 Wrapped paints a picture of a music scene that is absolutely thriving. It’s incredible to see how fast Nigerians embrace fresh voices right alongside the legends,” says Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa.
