Abia Govt Debunks Alleged Attack on Governor’s Convoy, Says Probe Underway

The Abia State Government has dismissed rumours suggesting that the convoy of Governor Alex Otti came under attack in Imo State, stating that the governor was nowhere near the location of the incident.

In a statement signed electronically by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the government clarified that the only vehicle involved was an advance team travelling ahead of the governor on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, along the Umuowa–Ihite axis.

The three-man team was en route to the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport, Owerri, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle shortly before the airport junction.

Ukoha stressed that contrary to circulating reports, Governor Otti’s convoy was not attacked.

“The convoy of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, was not attacked. No member of the advance team or any other person sustained injury, and no life was lost,” he stated.

He urged members of the public to disregard misleading accounts of the incident.

The Abia Government confirmed that security agencies have been alerted and have commenced investigations to identify and apprehend the attackers.
