The Ogun State Government has responded to allegations by Senator Gbenga Daniel, insisting that the state did not stop his constituency road projects out of spite but due to failure to meet approved standards.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government stated that several of Daniel’s constituency road projects in Ogun East were halted because the contractors failed to comply with Federal Ministry of Works specifications.
According to the government, the contractors were instructed to submit approved specifications and drawings to enable proper monitoring by the Ogun State Ministry of Works. Those who complied have since been cleared to continue, with state engineers assigned to supervise the projects to ensure full adherence to standards.
Akinmade emphasized that the state has a constitutional responsibility to prevent substandard projects, especially when public funds are involved.
Addressing Daniel’s claim that the government is behind his political suspension, Akinmade clarified that the issue is strictly an internal party matter.
He noted that Senator Daniel was suspended by his ward in the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the suspension was later ratified by the State Working Committee. According to him, the Ogun State Government neither initiated nor intervened in the process.
He advised the senator to focus on clearing his name within the party instead of launching “media attacks” on the government.
Akinmade said, “It was not the Ogun State Government that suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel. The party invited him several times to defend himself, but he ignored the summons. Blaming everyone but himself is illogical and shows a lack of accountability.”
Reacting to Daniel’s accusations that Governor Dapo Abiodun is persecuting him, the government dismissed the allegations as baseless. Akinmade said Daniel behaves as though he is still governor and expects unconditional deference from everyone in the state.
He questioned why Daniel is the only federal lawmaker in Ogun State raising complaints about due process in constituency projects and criticized the senator for what he described as a pattern of conflict.
Akinmade added that Ogun State under Governor Abiodun enjoys stability—unlike Daniel’s tenure, which he described as “crisis-ridden.”
He concluded that the government has more important responsibilities than responding to what he called the senator’s “tantrums,” urging Daniel to address his issues directly with the party.
