Prince Olawale Oriola Adeyemi, Esq., the first great-great-great-grandson of Olufadekemi (Olufadi) — the first male Abidagba during the reign of the 41st Awujale, Fusengbuwa — has reaffirmed the indisputable legitimacy of his lineage for the Awujale throne.
Speaking with our correspondent via telephone on Thursday, the corporate lawyer and proud Ijebu son emphasized that his claim is grounded in direct male-line descent, supported by historical records and recognized chieftaincy laws.
Prince Olawale said his claim follows established succession arrangements and centuries-old traditions of Ijebu-Ode. He expressed confidence that the Ogun State Government and relevant authorities will ensure a lawful and transparent selection process for the next Awujale.
Raised in Ijebu-Ode by his grandfather, the late Prince Fasasi Adebisi Adeyemi (Obanlefa) — former Olori-Ebi of the Fusengbuwa ruling house who led from 1988 to 2013 — Prince Olawale highlighted his grandfather’s 25-year unchallenged leadership as evidence of the family’s legitimate standing.
“I was raised in Ijebu-Ode under the guidance of my grandfather, the late Obanlefa. After graduating from Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, I pursued higher education in the United States, earning a Bachelor’s in Economics from City University of New York, a Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University, and a Master of Law (LLM) in Securities and Financial Law from Georgetown University,” he said.
Reflecting on his upbringing in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, and family ties to Ile Nla Compound in Agunsebi, Prince Olawale emphasized the values of integrity, discipline, and devotion instilled in him by his grandfather.
“We inherited not just his bloodline but also his integrity and sense of service. Inspired by this legacy, I invested in rebuilding the Olufadi/Obanlefa House at Ile Nla Compound, which will now serve as an administrative center, library, and archive for the Fusengbuwa ruling house,” he explained.
Prince Olawale cautioned that excluding descendants of the Obanlefa line, whose leadership was widely recognized, would set a dangerous precedent, rewarding revisionist claims over legitimate heritage.
He concluded by expressing faith that the Ogun State Government, the royal family, and other authorities will follow the law in presenting a legally qualified candidate for the Awujale stool.
