Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed the potential of Nigeria’s cultural heritage to significantly boost the nation’s foreign exchange earnings if properly developed and promoted.
Speaking at the 39th Akesan Day Celebration in Iperu-Remo, the governor said that many countries across the world had successfully diversified their economies through culture and tourism, adding that Nigeria could achieve similar growth by showcasing its numerous cultural festivals.
Governor Abiodun noted that events like Akesan Day already attract visitors who stimulate the local economy by patronising artisans, entertainers, food vendors, hotels and transport operators. According to him, when fully developed, such festivals become major tourism platforms—similar to Lisabi Day, Oronna Day and Ojude Oba—while also promoting unity and shared identity among the people.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to preserving history, supporting cultural institutions and deepening community development across Ogun State.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for his economic reforms, expressing the state’s readiness to continue aligning with the Federal Government to ensure sustained progress for Ogun people.
Traditional rulers and other cultural stakeholders at the event praised the governor’s efforts, describing Akesan Day as a unifying celebration and a catalyst for ongoing development in Iperu-Remo.
