The Ijebu-Ode Local Government has announced a temporary ban on the use of fireworks and explosive materials during the upcoming festive season. The measure, according to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, is aimed at safeguarding residents and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere throughout the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Speaking at the council secretariat while addressing community stakeholders, Hon. Alebiosu said the decision became necessary due to recurring incidents of fire outbreaks, injuries, and disturbances typically associated with the uncontrolled use of explosives during the yuletide period.
“All categories of fireworks—commonly called bangers, firecrackers, knockouts and other related explosive devices—are banned,” he said. “Security personnel have been mobilized to enforce compliance across major neighborhoods, markets, and recreational centres within the local government area.”
The council chairman noted that the restriction is not permanent but is designed solely to maintain order, enhance security consciousness, and guarantee an incident-free festive season for all residents.
