President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), a strategic body designed to ensure effective and coordinated execution of the administration’s landmark tax reforms.
The committee will be chaired by Mr. Joseph Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCIT). Tegbe brings over 35 years of professional experience across the public and private sectors, including his previous role as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, will oversee the committee’s activities.
According to the Presidency, the NTPIC will conduct extensive consultations across government institutions, the private sector, professional bodies, and civil society to ensure inclusive and well-informed implementation of the new tax laws. The committee will also engage subnational governments and embark on nationwide public-awareness campaigns to promote understanding and compliance.
Mrs. Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, will serve as Secretary of the Committee. Other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and additional experts drawn from tax administration, law, finance, and the private sector.
President Tinubu emphasized that effective implementation of the new Tax Acts is central to Nigeria’s economic transformation and crucial for strengthening public finance management while protecting investor confidence.
“These new Tax Acts reflect our administration’s commitment to building a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting the interests of citizens and businesses,” the President said.
“The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee will ensure coherent, effective, and well-aligned implementation across all levels of government.”
The committee’s mandate includes improving inter-agency coordination by harmonizing existing frameworks with new tax statutes, minimizing revenue leakages, reinforcing accountability, and ensuring unified oversight throughout the transition process.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Chairman Joseph Tegbe expressed readiness to deliver:
“We understand the strategic importance of these Tax Acts. Our committee will work closely with all stakeholders to support the Minister of Finance in ensuring seamless implementation and building public trust in the tax system.”
Minister Wale Edun added that the establishment of the NTPIC marks a significant step toward resetting Nigeria’s fiscal policy framework to drive sustainable economic growth.
The committee is expected to enhance revenue mobilization, strengthen fiscal sustainability, and support national development goals.
