The Olisa of Ijebuland, High Chief Rasheed Adesanya, has firmly dissociated himself from a communiqué currently circulating on Facebook, which claims he rejected the resolutions reached at last Thursday’s union meeting with the Interregnum Committee led by Chief Sunny Kuku at the Awujale’s Palace.

Addressing journalists on Saturday evening, High Chief Adesanya stated unequivocally that he remains in full agreement with the official communiqué drafted at the palace meeting and has no knowledge of, nor did he authorize, the version published on Facebook.

“I was surprised when Lekan drew my attention to the Facebook publication claiming that I had disowned what we agreed on at the palace,” he said.
“This is false. I have not granted any interview since the meeting at the Awujale’s Palace. The Facebook communique is not from me, and I completely disown it.”

He urged journalists to verify any information purportedly coming from him before publication, stressing that the only official statements from his office are those signed by himself or by Chief Kakanfo Awujale, Abimbola Okenla.

“For the sake of order, if any information is circulated and it is not signed by me or Chief Kakanfo Awujale, please do not publish it. Cooperate with us. Whatever has gone out already is not my handiwork,” he emphasized.

When asked to identify the source or medium responsible for the Facebook publication, High Chief Adesanya said he could not confirm the origin.

However, an investigation by Sagebits Online revealed that the controversial communiqué was posted by one Horiyommy Oluwaseun, who describes himself as a digital creator, publisher, and journalist. His Facebook profile lists him as currently based in Ijebu-Ode and as having studied Business Administration at Olabisi Onabanjo University.

In a concluding clarification, Chief Abimbola Okenla stressed that High Chief Rasheed Adesanya should not be referred to as Oba Alayeluwa of Ijebu-Ode, but by his correct traditional title:

High Chief Olisa of Ijebu-Ode.

Present at the event were Prince Olusesan Olusoga, Chief Emmanuel Adedayo, Head of all Princes in Olisa Palace and Olisa’s wife, Olori Adesanya and Press men.
