Prince Olaseni Ottun Declares for Awujale of Ijebuland, Calls for Innovation-Driven Traditional Leadership

Prince Olaseni Ottun, 45, banker and business leader from the Fusengbuwa ruling house, joins the Awujale of Ijebuland race, pledging innovation, youth inclusion, and respect for Ijebu tradition.

A young Ijebu prince and accomplished banker, Prince Olaseni Oyeniyi Ottun, has officially declared his intention to contest for the vacant stool of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

Prince Ottun, a descendant of the Adeberu lineage of the Fusengbuwa ruling house in Igboburo, Ijebu-Ode, made his declaration following the announcement confirming Fusengbuwa as the next ruling house eligible to produce a successor to the late Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, GCON, who reigned for 65 years.

His declaration has been met with enthusiasm across Ijebuland, with many describing him as a youthful, cultured, and visionary candidate—a blend of modern intellect and traditional grounding.

At 45, Prince Ottun brings a wealth of experience from Nigeria’s banking and business sectors, with a career spanning over two decades. He has served in key roles at Zenith Bank, Bank PHB (now Keystone Bank), and the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (NNPC subsidiary), earning numerous commendations for leadership, discipline, and innovation.
“There is no place like home. If given the honour to serve, I will ensure the next chapter of Ijebuland’s greatness is written with inclusiveness, innovation, and respect for our cherished traditions.” — Prince Olaseni Ottun

Prince Ottun stressed that youthful leadership has always been part of Ijebu heritage, recalling that the late Oba Adetona ascended the throne at a young age and transformed Ijebuland into one of Nigeria’s most respected kingdoms.

“Ijebuland is one of Africa’s most civilized and industrious societies,” he noted. “We must preserve our dignity while embracing innovation. The youth bring energy, creativity, and a modern outlook vital for our continued progress.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to the 1957 Western State Chieftaincy Declaration, which guides the rotation of the throne among the Gbelegbuwa, Anikinaiya, Fusengbuwa, and Fidipote ruling houses, stressing that the next Awujale must embody wisdom, courage, and integrity.

“Leadership is not about authority,” he said. “It is about vision, influence, and the ability to inspire. The Awujale throne represents honour and responsibility—values I hold dear.”

Born in August 1980, Prince Olaseni Oyeniyi Ottun is the Executive Director of Sally Tibbot Consulting Limited and a seasoned banker with over 20 years of professional experience.

He began his career at KPMG in 2001 before joining the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (NNPC subsidiary) in 2002, where he served until 2006. His banking journey continued at Zenith Bank (2006–2008) and Bank PHB/Keystone Bank (2008–2013), earning multiple awards for excellence and leadership.

Since joining Sally Tibbot Consulting Limited in 2013, he has risen to Executive Director, and today sits on the boards of several respected companies, including: Sally Tibbot Consulting Limited, Flips Limited, BOT Engineers Limited, Riverdale Financial Services Ltd, Smarbo Engineering Limited, CV Banc Limited and S.R. Ottun’s Stores

His professional expertise spans operations, commercial banking, fintech partnerships, and electronic banking systems, making him a strong advocate for innovative governance rooted in traditional wisdom.

Known for his humility, intellect, and compassion, Prince Ottun represents a new era of Ijebu leadership—one that bridges heritage with progress.

Beyond his corporate accomplishments, he is deeply involved in community development initiatives focused on youth empowerment and education.

“True leadership is service,” he often says, “and every act of service strengthens the kingdom.”

As Ijebuland prepares for the future, Prince Ottun’s emergence signals a renewed hope for unity, growth, and continuity—a prince ready to lead with heart, purpose, and honour.
