Investor Confidence Rising: Tinubu Lauds NGX, SEC as Market Records Historic Growt

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the remarkable growth of Nigeria’s capital market under his administration, describing it as a strong signal of investor confidence in ongoing economic reforms.

Speaking in Brazil on Tuesday during a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX) and the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Tinubu said the surge in market capitalisation and trading activity reflects the positive impact of his government’s bold economic measures.

“Nigeria’s markets must be a trusted engine of enterprise and prosperity. My government will continue to pursue reforms that unlock capital, protect investors, and drive innovation, so that our economy works for every Nigerian,” Tinubu said.

The President reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the financial ecosystem, stressing that dialogue with capital market leaders is vital to the Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria’s ambition to become Africa’s top investment destination. He welcomed an invitation to visit the NGX trading floor to celebrate recent milestones.

SEC Director-General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, hailed the signing of the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025, calling it one of Africa’s most comprehensive frameworks for capital markets. He projected that the law would help propel Nigeria towards a ₦300 trillion market while safeguarding investor interests and ensuring equitable wealth distribution.

NGX Group Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, said trading volumes and market value had nearly tripled since Tinubu came into office. He urged the fast-tracking of listings of state-owned enterprises such as NNPC Limited and called for tax incentives to sustain investor confidence.

Group CEO of NGX, Temi Popoola, emphasised the need to position Nigeria’s Exchange as a global hub by modernising infrastructure, expanding products, and increasing retail participation through digital platforms.

Similarly, NGX Director, Nonso Okpala, pointed to exchange rate stability and improved macroeconomic predictability as key outcomes of Tinubu’s reforms, encouraging more Nigerian businesses to list on the exchange as a way to democratise wealth.
