“Hope Begins at Home: Tinubu Unveils Grassroots Programme to Uplift Every Nigerian Ward”

Abuja, August 13, 2025 – SageBits Online

In a major push to address poverty from the ground up, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially launched the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme — a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering communities across all 8,809 political wards in Nigeria.

The launch was announced during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, where President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and reform-driven governance.

“Together, we’ve implemented bold reforms that have dismantled long-standing distortions and restored policy credibility,” Tinubu told FEC members, commending their dedication to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Nigeria’s Economic Path to $1 Trillion

At the heart of Tinubu’s economic vision is an ambitious goal: growing Nigeria’s economy to $1 trillion by 2030. To get there, he said, the country must target a minimum annual GDP growth of 7.0% by 2027.

“This isn’t just about numbers—it’s a moral duty. Sustainable growth is our only path to lifting millions out of poverty,” the President emphasized.

He also pointed to the IMF’s July 2025 Article IV Report, which backs his administration’s investment-led growth strategy and recent macroeconomic reforms that have already begun to yield results. These include:

  • Strengthened economic resilience

  • Improved macroeconomic stability

  • A more transparent and business-friendly environment

  • Renewed investor confidence

Targeting Poverty Where It Starts

870″ data-end=”2080″>The newly launched Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme is a community-first initiative designed to bring economic opportunities directly to local communities across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

Calling it a “micro-level strategy”, Tinubu described the programme as one of the most personal initiatives under his leadership.

“This programme is deeply personal to me. It reflects our belief that real change begins at the community level,” he said.

He called for collaboration between federal, state, and local governments, as well as private sector partners, to ensure the programme’s success.

State Governments Urged to Do More

Referencing recent discussions with the National Economic Council (NEC), President Tinubu urged state governors to prioritize:

  • Productivity-boosting investments

  • Ensuring food security

  • Enhancing cooperation with local governments

“These pillars are essential for tackling poverty in a lasting and meaningful way,” he noted.

Reforming Public Investment and National Savings

Addressing Nigeria’s fiscal outlook, Tinubu flagged the country’s low public investment rate—just 5.0% of GDP—as a serious concern. He stressed the need to make every Naira count amid global financial tightening.

Among the issues identified for immediate review:

  • High revenue collection costs by agencies like FIRS, Customs, NUPRC, and NIMASA

  • The NNPC’s 30% management and frontier exploration deductions under the Petroleum Industry Act

The President has tasked the Economic Management Team, led by the Minister of Finance, to carry out a full review and present actionable recommendations to optimize national spending.

A Call to Unity and Purpose

Wrapping up his address, President Tinubu reminded the FEC that the task ahead is daunting, but achievable with unity and focus.

“The challenges are real, but our resolve is stronger. Together, we will build a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Nigeria,” he concluded.
