President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commiserated with traders and residents of Kano State following the devastating fire outbreak at Singer Market, describing the incident as tragic and deeply concerning.
The fire, which broke out on Saturday evening and raged into Sunday morning, caused extensive damage to the popular food market, destroying goods and leaving many traders counting heavy losses.
President Tinubu had earlier contacted Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to obtain a firsthand situation report on the incident.
Expressing concern over the recurring nature of the disaster, the President noted that the latest blaze occurred less than two weeks after another fire destroyed dozens of shops and property at the same market.
Alarmed by the frequency of such incidents, President Tinubu directed that a comprehensive investigation be conducted to determine the immediate and underlying causes of the fires.
He emphasised the need to prevent future occurrences, noting that repeated market fires often leave hardworking traders in despair and disrupt economic activities.
The President assured affected traders of the Federal Government’s concern and reiterated the importance of implementing preventive measures to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and public infrastructure.
The statement was issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on February 15, 2026.
