FGN Power Company Briefs Power Minister on Presidential Power Initiative Progress

Management highlights progress on Siemens-backed power programme, identifies quick-win projects to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure

The management of the FGN Power Company (FGNPC) has briefed the Honourable Minister of Power, Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, alongside the Permanent Secretary and top directors of the Federal Ministry of Power, on the implementation progress of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), as efforts intensify to transform Nigeria’s electricity sector and improve power delivery nationwide.

The strategic engagement, held in Abuja, provided an opportunity for the FGNPC leadership to present an update on the scope, achievements, challenges, and ongoing implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative, one of the Federal Government’s flagship programmes designed to modernise Nigeria’s power infrastructure and significantly improve electricity supply across the country.

The Presidential Power Initiative, widely known as the Siemens-backed power sector reform programme, is aimed at strengthening the nation’s transmission and distribution networks through critical infrastructure upgrades, technology deployment, and capacity enhancement across the electricity value chain.

During the briefing, discussions focused on the impact of the initiative so far, ongoing project implementation, and the identification of low-hanging fruits capable of delivering immediate improvements to power supply while longer-term infrastructure projects continue.

The FGNPC management also highlighted the need for accelerated interventions across key areas of the power sector to ensure that the objectives of the initiative translate into measurable benefits for households, businesses, industries, and public institutions.

According to the company, stakeholders at the meeting deliberated on practical measures that can fast-track project execution, improve operational efficiency, and support sustainable outcomes in Nigeria’s quest for reliable and stable electricity.

The session further underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing longstanding challenges in the power sector through coordinated policy implementation, strategic partnerships, and infrastructure investments.

FGNPC reiterated its commitment to working closely with the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Power to deliver on the objectives of the Presidential Power Initiative and support the broader mandate of transforming Nigeria’s electricity sector.

The company noted that continued collaboration between implementing agencies, policymakers, and sector stakeholders remains critical to achieving the goals of improved power generation, enhanced transmission capacity, and more efficient electricity distribution nationwide.

The Presidential Power Initiative remains one of the Federal Government’s key interventions targeted at strengthening Nigeria’s energy security, boosting industrial productivity, attracting investment, and improving the quality of life for millions of Nigerians through reliable electricity access.
