At 94, Ogun-born matriarch Mojisola Modupe leaves legacy of motherhood and family

Sagamu-born Mrs. Mercy Mojisola Modupe dies in UK at 94, remembered for a life of dignity, resilience and devotion to family

The death of Mrs. Mercy Mojisola Modupe of the Makiyeti Family in Remoland, Sagamu, Ogun State, has brought to an end the remarkable earthly journey of a woman remembered for her dedication to family, resilience and the enduring values of motherhood.

Mrs. Modupe died in the United Kingdom on September 16, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving behind children, grandchildren, relatives and associates who mourn her passing while celebrating the life she lived.

Born and raised with roots in Sagamu, Mrs. Modupe belonged to a generation shaped by values of discipline, perseverance, family responsibility and communal living. Throughout her long life, she was particularly known within her family as a mother and matriarch whose influence extended across generations.

Her 94 years spanned a period of significant social change in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Through those changing times, however, family remained central to her life, with her role as a mother forming an important part of the legacy she leaves behind.

She was blessed with children who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields. Among them is Barrister Ayodele Modupe, a solicitor practising in the United Kingdom.

The accomplishments of her children form part of the visible legacy of Mrs. Modupe’s motherhood, but her contribution to the family extended beyond achievements that could be publicly measured. Her years were also devoted to nurturing, guiding and supporting her children through different stages of their lives.

Her death in the United Kingdom marks the conclusion of a life that touched several generations. For her family and those who knew her, the loss is deeply felt, even as her long life provides an opportunity to reflect on the values and memories she leaves behind.

At 94, Mrs. Modupe lived long enough to witness successive generations of her family grow and make their own contributions to society. Her story therefore extends beyond longevity to encompass motherhood, perseverance, family unity and legacy.

As the family prepares to lay her to rest, relatives and friends are expected to celebrate the memories of the years they shared with her and the influence she had on those around her.

Mrs. Mercy Mojisola Modupe leaves behind a family history shaped in part by the values she upheld and transmitted to generations after her. Her memory will remain cherished by her children, grandchildren, relatives and all those whose lives she touched.

May her soul rest in peace.
