The Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), Engr. Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, has defended the recent solidarity trek organised by the movement’s youth and student wings, describing it as a peaceful demonstration of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akintunde said the procession, which attracted hundreds of youths, students and supporters across Abeokuta, was designed to reaffirm confidence in the leadership of the three political figures while encouraging greater youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to him, the movement’s support is based on what it considers the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration, Governor Abiodun’s developmental programmes and Senator Adeola’s record of empowerment, infrastructure development and constituency interventions across Ogun State.
Speaking at the Ake Palace in Abeokuta after the solidarity walk, Akintunde said the movement remains convinced that President Tinubu deserves another term in office, while expressing support for Governor Abiodun’s reported senatorial ambition and Senator Adeola’s governorship aspiration in Ogun State.
He explained that the initiative was not merely a political procession but a platform to mobilise young people to remain actively involved in governance and democratic participation.
“The solidarity trek is for our three leaders—President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi). We have every reason to support them because we believe in their leadership and their commitment to development,” he said.
Akintunde noted that Senator Adeola’s youth-focused empowerment programmes, constituency projects and infrastructure initiatives have continued to attract widespread support among young people across the state.
He added that the economic reforms introduced by President Tinubu, alongside development initiatives undertaken by Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola, have strengthened the movement’s confidence in their leadership.
“We are confident that, come 2027, our principals will secure overwhelming support. Their leadership has continued to inspire young Nigerians to remain committed to the ideals of good governance and democratic participation,” he stated.
The solidarity trek commenced at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, where participants converged before embarking on a peaceful procession through major streets of Abeokuta.
The procession featured youths, students, APC supporters and party members carrying banners and placards while chanting slogans in support of President Tinubu, Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola.
Also speaking at the Ake Palace, former two-term member of the House of Representatives who represented Ijebu Central Federal Constituency and Co-Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, commended the organisers for conducting what he described as a peaceful, orderly and well-coordinated exercise.
He said the solidarity trek demonstrated the growing commitment of young people to constructive political engagement and unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The Youth and Students Wings of the movement have demonstrated discipline, unity and commitment through this peaceful exercise. It reflects our determination to encourage active youth participation in politics while strengthening support for our leaders,” Odeneye said.
He also praised Akintunde for providing leadership that continues to unite young members of the movement across Ogun State.
Odeneye reaffirmed the movement’s unwavering support for President Tinubu, Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola, expressing confidence in their leadership as preparations gradually gather momentum for the 2027 general elections.
