Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved and presented a total of ₦3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose lands and buildings were acquired for major infrastructure projects across various parts of the state.
The beneficiaries, drawn from Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba, received compensation for properties affected by ongoing road construction and other public infrastructure projects designed to improve transportation, stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life for millions of residents.

Speaking during the presentation of the compensation cheques, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the state government remains committed not only to delivering critical infrastructure but also to ensuring that citizens whose properties are impacted by development projects are treated fairly and compensated appropriately.

According to the governor, every compensation claim underwent a rigorous verification process to ensure transparency, accountability and the protection of the rights of genuine property owners.
“Today, I presented ₦3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose land and buildings were acquired for key infrastructure projects across Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The governor emphasized that while Lagos continues to expand its road network and public infrastructure to meet the needs of its growing population, government must never lose sight of the human impact of such projects.

He noted that behind every acquired property lies a personal story, whether a family residence, a business investment or a source of livelihood.
“As we build the roads and public infrastructure Lagos needs, we must also do right by the people whose lives are directly affected. Behind every property is a family, a home or a business,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the sacrifices made by affected property owners would not be overlooked, describing their cooperation as a vital contribution to the state’s long-term development agenda.
He explained that the projects for which the acquisitions were made are expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, attract investment and support economic activities across the affected corridors.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to responsible governance, noting that fairness, transparency and accountability remain central to the state’s approach to infrastructure development and public service.
“Every claim was carefully verified through due process to ensure that the rightful owners received what they were entitled to. We made a promise to govern with fairness and accountability, and today was another opportunity to keep that promise,” he said.
Observers described the compensation exercise as a significant demonstration of the government’s effort to balance developmental needs with the rights and welfare of citizens affected by public projects.
The disbursement forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader strategy of ensuring that infrastructure expansion is carried out in a manner that is equitable, lawful and socially responsible.
