Lagos Releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for Public and Private Schools

Government Approves Harmonised Schedule to Guide Schools, Parents and Students Across the State

The Lagos State Government has officially approved and released the 2026/2027 Harmonised Academic Calendar for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state, providing a comprehensive framework for academic activities in the new session.

The approval was announced by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, following extensive consultations with education stakeholders coordinated by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).

According to the Commissioner, the harmonised calendar emerged from a series of stakeholder engagements involving representatives of public and private schools, education administrators and other critical actors in the sector, all aimed at ensuring a smooth, predictable and productive academic year.

He explained that the calendar was finalised after two major consultative meetings where participants reviewed proposed schedules, considered the needs of schools and learners, and collectively agreed on important dates for the 2026/2027 academic session.

“The harmonised academic calendar is the product of robust consultations and collaboration among education stakeholders. It provides a structured roadmap that will enable schools, teachers, parents and students to plan effectively throughout the academic year,” Alli-Balogun stated.

The approved calendar contains key academic milestones, including school resumption dates, mid-term breaks, examination periods, public holidays and vacation schedules for all schools operating within Lagos State.

The Commissioner noted that the initiative is part of the state government’s broader commitment to strengthening educational planning, improving learning outcomes and promoting uniformity in the administration of school activities across the state.

He emphasized that a well-coordinated academic calendar remains critical to achieving educational excellence, as it provides clarity and certainty for all stakeholders within the education ecosystem.

“This harmonised calendar reflects the commitment of the Lagos State Government to quality education, effective planning and the orderly administration of schools. It is designed to ensure that teaching and learning activities are carried out seamlessly throughout the session,” he said.

Alli-Balogun further urged school owners, administrators, teachers, parents and guardians to familiarise themselves with the approved schedule and ensure strict compliance with its provisions.

He stressed that adherence to the calendar would promote consistency in educational delivery and support the state’s ongoing efforts to maintain high standards in both public and private schools.

The government also encouraged members of the public to obtain the complete academic calendar through the official digital platforms of the Lagos State Government and the Office of Education Quality Assurance.

The release of the calendar comes as Lagos continues to implement reforms aimed at enhancing educational quality, strengthening school supervision and ensuring that learners receive uninterrupted access to academic activities in a conducive learning environment.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the early release of the calendar, describing it as a valuable planning tool that will enable schools to organise instructional activities, assessments and extracurricular programmes more efficiently.
