Leaders, delegates, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have formally presented Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the consensus candidate of the zone for the 2027 senatorial election.
The endorsement, which party leaders described as a strategic move aimed at sustaining unity and ensuring quality representation for Ogun East at the National Assembly, was announced during a stakeholders’ gathering attended by top APC chieftains and political leaders across the district.

Among dignitaries present at the event were the APC consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun, and Senator Gbenga Kaka, Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Deputy Chairman, Chief James Dina, Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha, as well as the Chairman of APC in Ogun East Zone, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.

Presenting Governor Abiodun before party stakeholders, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun said leaders and members of the party across Ogun East unanimously agreed to adopt the Governor as the APC consensus candidate for the senatorial district ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the decision reflects the confidence of party members in the Governor’s leadership capacity, political experience, and developmental record in Ogun State.

Speaking during the gathering, Senator Lekan Mustapha disclosed that the endorsement followed extensive consultations among leaders and stakeholders of Ogun East, noting that the district had earlier reached a unanimous resolution during a stakeholders’ meeting held on April 20.
He explained that Tuesday’s event was organised to formally communicate the decision of the district to Governor Abiodun and the leadership of the APC in the state.
Mustapha added that the adoption was driven by the desire of the people to secure effective and people-oriented representation for Ogun East at the Senate.
Also speaking, the Chairman of APC in Ogun East Zone, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin, formally presented Governor Abiodun to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urging the state leadership to transmit his name to the national leadership of the party as the APC flag bearer for Ogun East Senatorial District.
Responding to the endorsement, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed appreciation to leaders, elders, stakeholders, and delegates of Ogun East for the confidence reposed in him.

The Governor described the consensus arrangement as a demonstration of political maturity, unity, and collective commitment to the continued progress of Ogun East and Ogun State at large.
Abiodun said he was deeply humbled by the overwhelming support and assured party faithful that he would not betray the trust placed in him by the leadership and members of the APC in the district.
According to him, if elected to represent Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, he would provide purposeful, quality, and people-driven representation capable of attracting more democratic dividends and developmental projects to the area.

The Governor also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the support his administration has continued to receive from the Federal Government, while commending APC leaders in Ogun East for prioritising unity and cohesion within the party.

He maintained that the adoption of a consensus candidate would further strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections and position the party for greater electoral success in Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun further reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals and programmes of the APC, promising to continue working closely with stakeholders across Ogun East to sustain the developmental momentum already recorded in the state.
He equally appreciated Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors, party executives, elders, and political stakeholders for their support and solidarity, expressing confidence that the APC would remain united and victorious in future elections.
