Rights advocate accuses serving senator of orchestrating falsehoods to derail governor’s Ogun East Senate ambition
The leader of the Centre for the Advocacy of Human Rights and Social Justice (CAHRSC), Olufemi Akindele, has condemned what he described as a coordinated smear campaign against Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, insisting that no amount of blackmail will derail the governor’s senatorial ambition.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta, Akindele accused a serving senator from Ogun State of sponsoring false narratives and character attacks aimed at weakening Abiodun’s political prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.
Akindele specifically criticised the circulation of a document titled “31 Questions for Governor Dapo Abiodun,” describing it as a politically motivated attempt to tarnish the governor’s image under the guise of public concern.
“This so-called document is nothing more than a desperate attempt to spread falsehood and mislead the public,” he stated.
According to him, the allegations contained in the publication are either recycled claims previously dismissed by the courts or entirely fabricated accusations designed to create political tension.
The CAHRSC leader alleged that the senator behind the campaign had benefited politically from Governor Abiodun’s support in the past but has now turned against the same leadership that facilitated his rise.
“It is unfortunate that someone who benefited from the governor’s goodwill is now resorting to betrayal and political sabotage,” Akindele said.
He further claimed that the senator had failed to remain loyal to party structures while allegedly maintaining links with opposition interests.

Akindele warned that continued attacks against the governor from within the ruling party would not succeed, arguing that such tactics only expose political desperation.
“No amount of propaganda or blackmail can stop the will of the people,” he declared.
He insisted that the endorsement Governor Abiodun has received from party stakeholders across Ogun East reflects genuine confidence in his leadership and political future.
The rights advocate urged aggrieved party members to seek lawful and constructive channels for addressing grievances instead of resorting to public mudslinging.
He said internal disputes should be handled through party mechanisms, warning that divisive propaganda only weakens party unity.
Akindele expressed confidence that Governor Abiodun’s senatorial ambition remains strong despite the ongoing attacks, stressing that the governor’s achievements and support base speak louder than political propaganda.
“The political journey ahead is clear, and no campaign of falsehood can stop that momentum,” he said.
He concluded by calling on Ogun residents to disregard what he described as politically motivated distractions and to remain focused on credible leadership.
