The Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement, Armstrong Tope Akintunde, has thrown his weight behind Dapo Abiodun following his emergence as the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ogun East ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Abiodun’s candidacy was sealed at a stakeholders’ meeting held on April 20, 2026, at Adeola Odutola Hall, where party leaders across the district unanimously endorsed him as their flag bearer.

Reacting to the development, Akintunde described the endorsement as both timely and symbolic, linking it to the governor’s earlier senatorial ambition in 2015.
He referenced the election won by Buruji Kashamu, noting that political journeys often come full circle.
“This endorsement shows that opportunities can return. It is a moment of destiny for our Governor and for Ogun East,” he said.
The Yayi Movement leader expressed confidence in Abiodun’s ability to deliver effective representation at the Senate, citing his record in office.
“What we are witnessing across Ogun East today reflects his commitment to development. If elected, he will do even more for the district,” he added.
Akintunde urged residents of Ogun East to rally behind the governor, stressing the need for unity and continuity.
“I appeal to the good people of Ogun East Senatorial District to support and elect Prince Dapo Abiodun as their next Senator,” he said.
Political Alignment Ahead of 2027
The endorsement highlights growing cohesion within the APC in Ogun East, as political actors begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
