OGUN POLITICS: OMOLUABI MOVEMENT REBRRANDS AS YAYI PROGRESSIVES MOVEMENT AHEAD OF 2027

Group cites strategic evolution, declares support for APC candidates and Senator Adeola’s governorship ambition

A prominent political group in Ogun State, the Omoluabi Movement, has officially rebranded as the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) as part of its strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Convener, Armstrong Tope Akintunde, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta by the State Media Director, Oluseun Joshua.

According to Akintunde, the rebranding represents a natural transition in the group’s political journey, marking the completion of its previous agenda and the beginning of a broader engagement aligned with emerging political realities.

He stated that members of the newly named Yayi Progressives Movement are committed to mobilising grassroots support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, from the presidential election down to State House of Assembly contests.

Particular emphasis, he noted, will be placed on supporting the governorship ambition of Solomon Adeola ahead of the 2027 elections.

Describing the movement as a broad-based grassroots coalition, Akintunde said YPM comprises artisans, professionals, youth groups, and politically engaged stakeholders, alongside 17 affiliated groups working toward the development of Ogun State within the progressive political framework.

He added that the movement currently boasts over 30,000 members, reflecting its expanding influence and growing acceptance across the state.

“The leadership of the Omoluabi Movement hereby announces its official transition and rebranding into the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) in Ogun State,” the statement said, noting that the move was necessary to reflect the group’s evolving vision.

Akintunde explained that the transition also signifies a shift from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA), which previously focused on supporting the re-election of Governor Dapo Abiodun during the 2023 elections.

He said the earlier platform successfully mobilised grassroots backing for the administration, contributing to what he described as improved governance and delivery of campaign promises.

The new movement, he added, is designed to deepen political participation and promote values such as inclusivity, accountability, and responsible leadership.

“Through this rebranding, the Yayi Progressives Movement aims to build an inclusive political structure that empowers citizens, promotes integrity, and redefines leadership culture,” Akintunde stated.

He emphasised that the group’s long-term vision is anchored on institutional reforms capable of driving sustainable development beyond electoral cycles, with a focus on economic growth, industrialisation, education, and civic engagement.
