Kano Government Warns Against Insults to Kwankwaso Amid Political Tensions

Director-General of Media cautions supporters of Governor Abba Yusuf to exercise restraint, vows sanctions for indiscipline

The Kano State Government has cautioned supporters of Governor Abba Yusuf against making inflammatory remarks or directing insults at the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, warning that such actions will attract disciplinary sanctions.

The warning was issued on Saturday by Bature Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Kano, during the distribution of motorcycles to residents at the Open Space Theatre, Government House.

Bature emphasized that the government would not tolerate indiscipline or disrespect toward Kwankwaso, whom he described as a political leader whose contributions to Kano politics must be acknowledged regardless of current developments.

“We will not accept indiscipline or insults against the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Anybody who engages in such behaviour will face the consequences,” he said.

He urged supporters of the governor to exercise restraint and maturity, especially amid heightened political tension following recent realignments in the state. Bature stressed that the government remains committed to peace and unity, warning that political differences should not escalate into personal attacks or abusive conduct.

The caution comes in the wake of Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a move that has sparked mixed reactions within the Kwankwasiyya movement and among Kano residents.

Earlier, Rabiu Kwankwaso reaffirmed his commitment to his political ideals, insisting he would not compromise his principles for personal gain. Addressing supporters at his residence in Kano shortly after the governor’s resignation on Friday, Kwankwaso said his political struggle had always been aimed at the emancipation of ordinary Nigerians.

“I’m not for sale. Our political convictions keep me grounded. If I were in it for personal gain, I would have taken the easy route and you would be looking for me elsewhere, not here,” he said.
