Williams unveils 15.37-metre wig, describes feat as proof that “nothing is impossible”
A Nigerian professional wig maker, Helen Williams, has secured a remarkable hat-trick of Guinness World Records after creating a wig taller than a three-storey building.
Williams, who already holds records for the world’s longest handmade wig at 351.28 metres and the widest wig at 3.65 metres, has now added the title of tallest wig to her growing list of achievements. The latest record-breaking wig measures 15.37 metres (50.42 feet) from the top of her head.
Guinness World Records confirmed the feat on Wednesday via its website and social media platforms, describing the accomplishment as extraordinary.
“Tallest wig – 15.37 metres (50.42 ft) made by Helen Williams (Nigeria),” GWR announced.
Reacting to the recognition, Williams said she has no intention of slowing down.
“I don’t think I’ll ever stop breaking records. To have a record is like climbing a mountain. The climb is hard and full of challenges, but the view from the top is incredible,” she said.
“Breaking another record shows that nothing is impossible.”
She explained that creating the tallest wig was the most technically demanding of her projects. According to her, an initial test failed, forcing a complete redesign of the internal structure to guarantee balance and stability.
The wig was constructed using 250 bundles of synthetic hair, cost over ₦3 million, and took two weeks to complete.
“The longest wig was the easiest as a wig maker, but the tallest wig was the most technical and challenging because of the construction,” Williams explained.
“You can have years of experience, but if the internal structure doesn’t hold, you won’t get the record.”
In addition to her major records, Williams also holds Guinness titles for the most hair clips in a wig in 30 seconds (94) and the most hair clips on the head in 30 seconds (97).
She described her journey as a testament to courage, determination and resilience.
“There are more records to break, more boundaries to push, and more dreams to achieve,” she said.
