Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has officially endorsed the Artnovation: Afro-Italian Renaissance (AAR) Exhibition as a strategic initiative to boost the state’s creative economy and deepen cultural and economic ties with Italy. The launch took place at the Italian Consulate in Lagos, drawing artists, cultural stakeholders, and dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.
Governor Abiodun highlighted the exhibition as a platform to leverage creativity for economic growth, tourism development, job creation, and sustainable revenue. “Through investments in arts, culture, and indigenous enterprises, including the revitalisation of Olumo Rock and the promotion of àdìrẹ textiles, Ogun State is positioning itself as a leading force in Nigeria’s creative economy,” he said.
The showcase featured original àdìrẹ prints from Ojude Aso, one of the new stores in the revamped Olumo Rock complex, alongside a diverse range of visual arts, poetry, music, and runway presentations. Master artist Tola Wewe unveiled the Afro-Italian Art Exhibition, reflecting the intersection of Nigerian and Italian artistry.
Governor Abiodun also welcomed the announcement that Ogun State will be featured at Milan Design Week 2026, describing it as a milestone for global visibility, trade opportunities, and international collaboration. He emphasised that partnerships with the Italian Consulate in Lagos and the Creative Youth Community Development Initiative (CYCDI–Solution17) will continue to open doors for local artists and cultural entrepreneurs.
The Governor’s presence underscored Ogun State’s commitment to building a vibrant creative sector, using culture as a tool for economic diversification, community development, and international recognition.
